It took awhile, but the dark circles under TV producer Hart Hanson’s eyes are explainable; he’s busy preparing to introduce a new character to the cast of BONES who, if successful, would spin off into his own series as early as next fall.

The character of Walter Sherman is basically the male analogue to Dr. Temperance Brennan and his special skill is that he’s able to find anything. Based on the novel series known as The Locator, penned by Richard Greener, the series would also be helmed by Hanson, who currently only pilots Bones.

John Grisham, whose legal thrillers are a staple of traditional book stores, has finally relented and made his entire backlist of 23 novels available in eBook format. That means owners of Amazon Kindles and Sony eReaders will now be able to acquire Grisham’s titles in electronic format.

While the move was inevitable, Grisham held out longer than most because of his love for traditional brick-and-mortar bookstores. Does this mean print is dead? No, but much like the music business’s transition from vinyl to CD to MP3 formats, how those books are delivered to consumers is undergoing a sea-change transition.

Print books will never go away; they’re as entrenched as a list of the best acne treatments, but there will be growing pains, certainly, as consumers move to eDelivery of the latest works from their favorite authors, rather than hanging out at the local Borders.

While HBO is putting its PR department on diet pills rather than reveal whether TRUE BLOOD will be renewed for a third season, there is good news for fans of the series. At the San Diego Comic-Con, author of the book series that inspired the TV phenom, Charlaine Harris, announced she’d just signed a three-book deal on her Sookie Stackhouse novels that will keep the series alive through 2014, at least.

Of course, the next book in the series is expected to arrive on schedule in May 2010, and her current book contract for Sookie goes through the novel expected in May 2011. The new contract covers annual installments expected in May 2012, May 2013 and May 2014. Ms. Harris seems to inspire plenty of confidence in publishers through her speed and efficiency in delivering entertaining reads in a timely manner.

A group of spoil-sports have sapped all the fun out of Midnight Sun, including the author’s own sense of fun in writing it. The novel, a follow-up to the four-novel Twilight saga as told from the perspective of vampire Edward Cullen, is a project that may never see the light of day, thanks to some idiot Internet content pirates, who somehow came into possession of several chapters of an early draft, and posted them online withou the author’s knowledge or permission.

Said Meyer on her Web site:

I’d rather my fans not read this version of Midnight Sun…My first feeling was that there was no way to continue. Writing isn’t like math; in math, two plus two always equals four no matter what your mood is like. With writing, the way you feel changes everything. If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn’t dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely.

It’s too bad; with Twilight set to premiere on the silver screen in November, the novel was set to be one hot property once it was finished. Now, it’ll be years before the book gets written, if it ever does.

Hopefully Meyer’s next project won’t experience such a security leak, and cruises to a spot atop the New York Times best-seller’s list for fiction; after penning five very successful novels, it’s time for Meyer to enjoy her success.
