Third series of Merlin in production

While not exactly a critical darling in the UK, a third series of Merlin is currently in production and set to debut on UK television this coming September. It doesn’t require a handy barcode scanner to detect that Merlin is perhaps more popular in the US than the UK.

Still, the Smallville treatment of Arthurian legend has drawn its fans, and with Buffy alumn Tony Head as Uther Pendragon, there’s plenty of US appeal to the show. The season two finale seemed to indicate that Morgana could become the series three big bad, which could be a mislead, or an extremely exciting set-up for the upcoming season.

This is one viewer who’s looking forward to Merlin Series 3 almost as much as Glee Season 2.

FlashForward struggles in Thursday return

ABC’s hoped-for LOST successor, FlashForward, returned to TV this past Thursday, but drew a meager 6.5 million amid heavy competition from the opening rounds of NCAA March Madness, NBC’s comedy lineup and reruns of Bones and Fringe on Fox. While no one expected FlashForward to blow away March Madness’ numbers, getting bested by NBC and nearly matched by Fox reruns is not the best way to return a show the network hopes will ease viewers’ grief over the impending end of LOST.

FlashForward is a drama exploring the mystery behind a worldwide blackout by everyone on Earth, and the glimpses of the near future they gained while unconscious. While there are no barcode scanners behind the scam, the show is like LOST in that it uses its concept to explore larger intellectual themes; the primary question behind FlashForward has been, “Is our future predetermined, or can we make choices that affect a real change to our0 future.

Chuck could see game-changing changes

Building up toward a season finale and preparing for a third season, Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak tease that the hit NBC spy-comedy, Chuck, could see a game-changing finale and set-up for an all-new direction next season. While they aren’t spilling the beans on the nature of this game-changing stunner, we do know that Jordana Brewster, who plays Chuck’s ex, is filming at least one new episode this season, though whether it’s the finale or not remains uncertain.

While it’s unlikely to involve anything as pedestrian as a new barcode scanner for BuyMore, or anything as wild as the kind of twists Lost regularly throws our way, we remain fans of Chuck and certainly interested to see how this all plays out.
