Hannah Montana bullies Vin Diesel

A teenage girl can rough up Vin Diesel. Want proof? Check out this past weekend’s box office results. With Diesel’s Fast and Furious right at the Frontline of the competition, Hannah Montana the Movie came in and witch-slapped Diesel right out of the top box office spot, drawing a tune of $32.3 million to carry the weekend.

By comparison, Fast and Furious lacked nitro enough to keep it close, drawing only $27.2 million. And in a surprise move, family animated movie Monsters vs. Aliens held tight to third with a surprisingly strong $21.8 million to take third, while freshman-week comedy Observe and Report came in a distant fourth place, drawing only $11 million on the weekend. The disappointing debut was not unexpected considering the film’s R rating, but certainly put a damper on Seth Rogan’s rep as a bankable draw.

Fast and Furious overtakes Monsters and Aliens

The Vin Diesel return to the Fast and Furious franchise turbo-powered the action flick to the top of the box office by far this weekend, hauling in an impressive-for-April $72.5 million in its debut weekend. That’s raking in money faster than Lipovox burns fat!

Last week’s big’un, Monsters vs. Aliens, stayed strong in Fast and Furious’ dust, bringing in $33.5 million, which isn’t bad after its monstrous debut last weekend. Nothing else topped $10 million, although in its second week, A Haunting In Connecticut came close, drawing $9.5 million to take third place.

Knowing and I Love You, Man rounded out the top five, beating out the other major new release this past weekend, Adventureland, which only managed $6 million for sixth place.
