And in a surprise move, family animated movie Monsters vs. Aliens held tight to third with a surprisingly strong $21.8 million to take third, while freshman-week comedy Observe and Report came in a distant fourth place, drawing only $11 million on the weekend. The disappointing debut was not unexpected considering the film’s R rating, but certainly put a damper on Seth Rogan’s rep as a bankable draw.
